Education

I am a proud graduate of Odem High School and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.  I have a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a specialization in history.  In 1999, I took graduate level courses and received a bilingual endorsement.  Yet, most of my education has come from working with children.  Observing and thinking about their responses helps me become a better teacher and a better person. They have taught me much more about: caring, patience, and how children learn best.

Experience

In 1986, I was surrounded by 2 year olds at a wonderful place called Wesley Community Center in Robstown.  Fast forward to 1997 and I’m surrounded by 10 and 11 year olds, many taller than me, at Menger Elementary in Corpus Christi.  Sometime in between I found my calling.  A teacher I would be and a teacher I am.  I came to teach in Odem in 2000.  A teacher friend, who is now my boss (Mrs. Martinez), called to say “I think there may be a spot for you.”  She was right because I have been here ever since.  I have taught 2nd grade through 4th grade, and am now our math intervention teacher for grades 1-5.  No matter what I teach or which students I work with, each day is an adventure.…the promising possibilities of each child is ever present. Sometimes, I can’t wait till the next day.  Serving children is the best kind of job in the world!
